Minutes for September 11th ICA Meeting

Visitors:  Sally McPherson, owner of Broadway Books, Susan Stringer, Montse Shepard, Catherine Zanger and other Eliot neighbors.  

Meeting called to order at 7:04 pm.

Approval of Prior Minutes: June minutes approved.

Officer Election: Jim Barta elected Secretary by unanimous vote.

Police Report:  Officer said reports are down in neighborhood.  Body found in Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood (overdose).  There were questions on homeless problems in the neighborhood.  Not able to force homeless to move.  Question on what can be done about fireworks on school property?  Suggested calling fire dept. before fireworks begin on July 4th.  Complaint of night parties in Irving Park.  Made request for officers to patrol park at night.  Officer stated they do patrol parks during evening.

NECN Report: Steve Cole reported on his President role at NECN.  Steve & Peter have been members of NECN for at least 4 years.  Background information was provided about events at NECN over the summer.  Improper emergency meetings were held.  ONI & several NECN board members complained that an emergency general board meeting was not called despite all board members being encouraged to participate in the already scheduled executive committee meetings.  NECN staff & ONI have made statements that Neighborhood Associations do not represent the NE residents well.  Peter O’Neil reported that NECN Staff do not agree with Board decisions and stated that Board should direct Staff.  Staff should not direct Board.

Minutes for June 12th ICA Meeting

Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Approval of Prior Minutes - April and May minutes approved.

14th and Siskiyou Problem

Danny and Muriel Daust reported on rental properties on NE 14th. Noise, larger gatherings, fires in backyard, called police and talked to neighbors, but no resolution. Discussion about keeping a log of the offenses, keeping the police abreast of the situation.

NECN Report

NECN has drafted a letter regarding tree policy and how to enforce the policy to prevent trees being cut down. City has enacted the policy, which will go into effect in January. SALT presentation on oil and coal trains that are passing through the North part of the city. NECN has drafted a letter asking that trains not pass through until have been proven safe.

Minutes for May 8th ICA Meeting

Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Approval of Prior Minutes - Minutes from April not available. Will be approved at June meeting.

NECN

Peter reported on Disaster Movie Night and a panel discussion on racial equality in our schools. Claire from NECN reported on community committee support that the NECN provides. The ICA has reached out to the representative from the Lloyd District Eco- district, which will meet on June 3 with neighborhoods to discuss the development.

Website

Jeff Jones requested a parks section on the site, which will be implemented as phase 2. Jeff, Emily, Tom, Steve agreed to tackle the issue of “free press” in the newsletter and the website, plus development of a Facebook page.

Minutes for April 10th

President Steven Cole called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Members present: Susan Hathaway-Marxer, Peter O’Neil, Tom Mertes, Christine Coers-Mitchell, William Archer, Barb Christopher, Pam Lindholm-Levy, Dean Gisvold, Jim Barta, Nathan Corser, Michela McMahon, J.C. Jones, Jason Messer and Steven Cole. Visitors: Patty Linde, representing Villages, Ann L. Schneider, Diane Nowicki and Rep. Barbara Smith Warmer. 

Previous (March) minutes amended and then approved. There were questions about candidates appearing before the ICA, but Steven Cole reiterated city policy and ONI rules on those appearances and indicated there has been no violation.

No policeman present. No police related issues reported.

NECN Report: Peter O’Neil reported that the quarterly meeting to be held April 21 will primarily concern Last Thursday and the Mayer’s suggestions for changing aspects of the Alberta Street event. He also reported that Chris Lopez resigned as president and our Steven Cole is now the acting president of NECN.
